The island is small enough that one can drive around the Island’s coast in 90 minutes.

My second visit to Spice Island Resort was even better with several resort enhancements, including, a brand new hotel bar, redesigned Anthurium Pool Suites, upgraded kitchen facilities, and the addition of an open-air Yoga Pavilion overlooking the Grand Anse Beach.

 You notice how relaxed you begin to feel when you experience this resorts first class experience with luxury car airport shuttle only 10 minute’s drive, easy breezy check-in with a specialty drink in hand from attentive staff, arrival champagne bottle, spice and chocolates in room, top shelf stocked bar, daily cheese platter, Molton Brown skincare/haircare & nightly turn-down services with chocolates.

The dining is also new and unveiled while keeping their favorite Caribbean dishes on the lunch menu; the evening menu is gourmet  fine dining Caribbean fusion style cooking with a beautiful presentation. One would never get bored with food at this resort since the dinner menu is changed daily and the lunch menu is changed 3 days a week. the 24-hour menu has so much to choose from and everything including bread and dessert is made in their kitchen.

With 64 luxury rooms, all classified as Suites with private villas equipped with plunge pools or beach suites with hammock and beach lounge outside your door along with en-suite 24-hour menu, top-shelf liquor, VIP service, Zen Spa, fine dining, entertainment & a huge, clear, temperature-maintained pool that’s steps away from the serene Grand Anse Beach. 

Whenever you want to step off the property there are Island tours and excursions including driving to locations thru lush vegetation on mountainous hills, scenic waterfalls, or snorkeling and scuba diving thru the sculpture park. My half-day tour with Mandoo Tours Grenada felt like 2 hours visiting the countryside’s villages & farms; Concord Falls, Spice Factory, picking fruit off trees & feeding monkeys. There is plenty to do on the property; enjoy the pool with views of surrounding hills, Janissa Spa, Yoga & Fitness Pavillion, boutique, restaurant, ocean view bar, water sports, live bands, Kids Club and more.

Review- Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Waters Edge Villas Gros Islet, St. Lucia #BayGardensBeachResort @baygardensbeachresort

Right on the northern tip of St Lucia, Gros Islet was once a fishing village but is now a thriving and popular resort. Located about an hour and half away from the international airport, this part of the island is well served by taxis and buses as well as airport shuttles.

With year-round glorious weather, Gros Islet also enjoys a wonderful climate with high temperatures and plenty of sunshine. We stayed in two stunning properties in this part of the island and had an absolutely amazing time. Our first Stay was at Bay Gardens Beach Resort, St Lucia where we had a suite at the Bay Gardens Beach Resort in Rodney Bay Village. This property boasts a fabulous location right next to the island’s best beach, Reduit Beach, perfect for boating, where we enjoyed our cruise tour. the beach is known for it’s mile of white gold sand which is perfect for swimming.

The Splash Island Water Park is just next door and is open to hotel guests while the bars in the heart of the resort are only a ten-minute stroll away. We loved staying within easy reach of the action while also having the option to enjoy the resort’s own wonderful amenities.

The colorful resort itself features six accommodation blocks of three stories each, all with bright lime and orange paintwork. The grounds are full of bushes and flowers, while the huge pool is the perfect spot to cool off. We really enjoyed the pleasant, relaxing atmosphere, although we did drag ourselves away from our sunbeds to try some of the hotel’s activities. There are water sports on offer including kayaking and water-skiing, as well as an on-site spa and fitness center. We also took the water taxi to Pigeon Island across the bay for a spot of sightseeing.

We loved our luxurious suite with its comfortable bed, separate living area, spacious bathroom and full kitchen. We also enjoyed dining in the two al-fresco restaurants with their delicious a la carte meals and buffets. With everything included in the cost, we found our stay to be great value and a whole lot of fun for all the family, with kids’ clubs and family-friendly activities in the price. We also thought that this would be a wonderful place for honeymooning couples thanks to its relaxing yet luxurious atmosphere, its comfortable accommodation and its wealth of facilities.

Waters Edge Villas, Gros Islet The second part of our dream stay in St Lucia was in a four-bed villa at Waters Edge Villas in Rodney Bay. Right on the waterfront, this property afforded incredible views over the marina and since it was right in the heart of the main resort area, we had easy access to shopping malls, restaurants, bars and the casino.

The modern villa offered the height of luxury with all contemporary conveniences. Although we had our own private kitchen for self-catered meals while benefiting from all the amenities at Bay Gardens Beach Resort which was just a shuttle ride or stroll away. With enough space to accommodate ten people, a private swimming pool, deck and beautiful decor, we enjoyed a truly luxurious stay here. We thought these villas would be ideal for larger groups of friends or families wanting to enjoy their own private space.

Both the resorts we stayed in during our special vacation were absolutely beautiful and offered every amenity to make our stay perfect. We had a wonderful time in St Lucia and would return again in a heartbeat. With fabulous facilities in an equally gorgeous setting, it’s a vacation we won’t forget in a hurry!

If you choose to have a quiet night in your suite; room service is available at no charge. I enjoyed ordering food & drinks from 1 of the restaurant’s for a romantic dinner set up for 2 on my terrace.

Want to do more on the property? Scuba diving and snorkeling equipment are available to rent. Off property excursions and tours are available to book in the main lobby. There are 3 nearby golf courses to choose from including the Punta Espada considered #1 course in the Caribbean and Mexico. When you’re part of the Premium package you can book all activities with your butler at the premium lobby.

Sail the BVI's Barefoot on the Windjammer S/V Mandalay @SailWindjammer1

Sail Windjammer -The S/V Mandalay was custom built as a gift for E.F. Hutton’s wife Marjorie Post in 1923 later used by the coast guard then as a passenger charter.

Cindy Greenway, a partner at Sail Windjammer and previous passenger along with Captain Sylvester Dzomeku known as sly with a prior history of sailing this same ship became owner/partners and began restoration out of love for the S/V Mandalay and to preserve one of the last tall ships left in the world to experience.

The process was long and rigorous since the ship was also re-fitted to sail the Galapagos Island as a cruising yacht.

The S/V Mandalay can accommodate 58 passengers comfortably with a crew of 24. Want to have high seas adventure feeling the freedom and power as in the film “Pirates of the Caribbean”? The S/V Mandalay will do just that.

The S/V Mandalay is a beautifully polished 236 feet tall ship built from white spruce, larch, pine and teak with three enormous masts that hoist bright white sails allowing for a smooth, warm and breezy sailing. 

  

The S/V Mandalay is based in Grenada and has 6 or 13 night sailing cruises year round. The Grenada/Caribbean cruising is unique since the ship can visit more islands that bigger vessels can’t get to and there is NO set Island itinerary.

Our first port of call began in Tortola. We flew our favorite airline JetBlue for the on-time service. roomier leg space, free wifi, friendly staff and direct tv with newest movies from JFK to San Juan connecting to St Thomas then hopped on a high speed ferry.

We were greeted at the dock and taken by tender boat to the S/V Mandalay with a caribbean welcome, appetizers and rum swizzles. It was wonderful to finally stand on the beautiful deck staring out into the magnificent blue ocean on the start of a relaxed, nautical inspired barefoot adventure. 

We started each day with breakfast later cheering with specialty drinks in hand while watching the crew raise the sails to the song “Amazing Grace” then climbed up to the top deck to meet with Captain Sly for storytelling and to find out the island we are visiting for the day.

    

The Islands visited in the British Virgin Islands – Virgin Gorda, Cooper Island, Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke, Anguilla and St. Maarten with white beaches, coves, bars and shops. There are also cafes & restaurants although we decided to take the ship’s 5 minute tender service to and from the Islands for lunch on the ship.

Daily beach activities include snorkeling, kayaking, scuba and selected tours. Since there was an unfortunate hurricane and the locals are still in the process of recovery the beaches are secluded; perfect for reading, relaxing and wading in the clear,warm waters.

It was nice after a long day at the beach to go home to the ship; enjoy snacks, cocktails and rest before dinner in my Admiral Suite cabin complete with central AC, king size bed, closets and ample space. Cabin categories are available. 

The evenings consisted of dinner, scheduled festivities, nautical classes and relaxing at the bar or on deck.

The chef prepares the evening dinner that starts quite charming with a dinner bell calling us to be seated at 2 large dining tables where wine was served and the 3 course meal began. Most of the food is local and  fresh with the breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner menu changed every day.

I especially liked that the ship is fitted with a ladder and platform to practice my dives and scuba. I also enjoyed relaxing on the top deck where I lounged on it’s smooth warmness during the day listening to Christopher Cross “Sailing” from state of the art speakers and star gazed at night.

For a unique barefoot experience on a tall ship on the high seas where you enjoy many islands that few can’t get to with a crew big enough to take care of your needs and so much more makes this voyage feel as if  being hosted on a friends yacht with a private butler leading to a wonderful vacation/getaway experience.
